Install Replay QA in Claude Code
Install the Replay QA plugin in Claude Code, sign in, and use the /replayqa command to open an interactive project dashboard.
The Replay QA plugin gives Claude Code an interactive project dashboard and the guidance to run QA, read bug reports, fix your app, and verify the fixes. Its single visible slash command is /replayqa; ask Claude in normal language when you want it to perform QA work.
Before you start
You need a Replay account. QA runs use your Replay QA plan or credits.
For the interactive terminal dashboard, you also need:
- A current Claude Code build with function hooks, enabled as shown below.
- Node.js 22 or newer for the local browser relay.
- A terminal that supports kitty graphics, such as Ghostty or kitty.
- Replay Chromium or another supported Chromium-based browser installed on your machine.
The agent can also work with publicly reachable production, staging, and PR-preview URLs. For local apps, it can help you connect localhost.
Install the plugin
Run these commands in your terminal:
Terminalclaude plugin marketplace add replayio/pluginsclaude plugin install replay-qa@replayio
This adds Replay's marketplace and installs Replay QA, including its MCP server and background QA skill. The skill is available to Claude automatically and does not add another slash-menu entry.
Choose Replay QA
The separate replayio plugin is for recording and debugging with Replay. You
do not need it to use the Replay QA dashboard.
Enable the interactive dashboard
If you do not already have Replay Chromium or a supported Chromium browser, install Replay Chromium:
Terminalnpx @replayio/replay@0.22.12 install
Start Claude Code from your app's folder with function hooks enabled:
TerminalCLAUDE_CODE_ENABLE_FUNCTION_HOOKS=1 claude
To keep hooks enabled for future sessions, merge this entry into ~/.claude/settings.json, preserving your other settings:
{
"env": {
"CLAUDE_CODE_ENABLE_FUNCTION_HOOKS": "1"
}
}
Restart Claude Code after installing the plugin or changing this setting.
Sign in to Replay QA
Run /mcp in Claude Code. Select the plugin's replay-qa server and complete the Replay sign-in flow in your browser. Claude may show its full server name as plugin:replay-qa:replay-qa.
Then run:
/replayqa
If the selected project needs authentication, the pane shows Connect Replay QA, Sign in with browser, and Retry:
- Connect Replay QA opens the MCP menu so you can authenticate the correct connection. The plugin retries the project after the menu closes.
- Sign in with browser runs Replay's CLI login in your normal browser and refreshes the project when sign-in finishes. You can also start this flow with
/replayqa login. - Retry checks again after you finish signing in elsewhere.
A separate MCP server named replay is for Replay's debugger. Reconnecting it does not sign you in to the Replay QA dashboard.
Open your project's dashboard
/replayqa follows the folder where Claude Code is running:
- With one linked project, it opens that project's dashboard.
- With several linked projects, it shows a project selector.
- With no linked project, it shows setup options for the apps it finds.
You can also open a specific project by passing its ID or dashboard URL:
/replayqa proj_your_project
The terminal pane displays the actual project dashboard. Click, type, scroll, and resize the pane to use it. Open in browser opens the dashboard in your normal browser, which uses its own browser login.

Opening the dashboard does not start a QA run.
Ask Claude to run QA or fix bugs
Ask in normal language; no additional slash commands are needed. For example:
Use Replay QA to test this app. Focus on sign-in, creating a note, editing it, and making sure it survives a refresh.
Or, for an existing project:
Read the open Replay QA bugs, fix them, and mark each fix for verification.
Claude uses the background skill and the CLI to work with your project. Explorations and journey runs can also appear as inline recording players. See the continuous QA loop for the full workflow.
Keep the plugin updated
In Claude Code, open /plugin, choose Marketplaces, select replayio, and enable auto-update. Third-party marketplaces do not enable auto-update by default.
To update manually, run:
Terminalclaude plugin marketplace update replayioclaude plugin update replay-qa@replayio
Restart Claude Code to load the update. If an older installation still shows /replay-qa:* shortcuts, update the plugin: /replayqa is the current plugin's only visible entry point.
If /replayqa is missing, check that the plugin is enabled and that you launched a build with function hooks enabled. If the picture is unavailable, check Node.js, your terminal's graphics support, and your installed Chromium browser; you can still use Open in browser.
